Jennifer Braverman

Artist Statement:

Braverman is passionate about painting and mixed media.  She has developed a unique art style titled, "Contourature" in which she further develops the concept of a blind contour drawing.   Blind contour drawings are created when the artist looks at the subject and not the paper while drawing.  Ideally the drawing is one continous line.  Contouratures is when the artist uses this method of drawing to create a stylized portrait of the subject.  Braverman's paintings showcase unique vibrant colors contrasted with hand stitched yarn outlines.  The combination of fine and fiber art create textured painting that shows the polished glamourous outside juxtaposed with the thick tangled yarn visible behind the canvas. The other style Braverman develops is more commercial and graphic.  She uses vintage international stamps to collage through crisp hand cut stencils representing subjects from pop culture.  Braverman takes a different approach to pop art with this style. Whether it's painting or collage, Braverman is interested in the layers of art and always adding an educational or informative element to her work.
